We train farmers in agroforestry to build vibrant regional economies, thriving food systems, and a healthier planet.
About us
Around the world, modern and industrialized farming practices are destroying the environment—and, at the same time, failing to provide reliable income and nourishment for the farmers we all depend on to survive. At TREES, we recognize that unsustainable land use is the root cause of our most pressing challenges. We confront these challenges by serving the people at the heart of our global food systems: farmers and their families. As a global leader in agroforestry training for over 30 years, TREES provides hands-on, immersive education, skill building, and support, encouraging farmers to work with nature, not against it. Our signature methodology, the Forest Garden Approach, helps farmers transform their land with thousands of fast-growing, ecologically appropriate trees and dozens of other crops, creating new possibilities for themselves and their communities. By embracing sustainable land practices, farmers are reclaiming their agency, breaking the cycles of climate change and generational poverty, and rebuilding our food systems from the ground up.

The fight for our planet starts with those who know the land best. 🌱 Climate change is one of the biggest challenges of our time, but the people who work the land every day hold the key to restoring it. Farmer-driven solutions are they key to climate resilience. Farmers are not just victims of climate change; they are leaders in the fight against it. Did you know that over 30 million farmers in Africa manage more than 600 million hectares of land (FAO)? That’s an incredible opportunity to turn the tide on climate change…if we stand with them. This Earth Day, we stand for climate solutions that put farmers first. Because when farmers thrive, the land thrives, and so do we. 💨 Vroom Vroom. Time to get planting! From bumpy backroads to muddy boots to collecting data, our field team is always in motion… training farmers, delivering seeds, and supporting Forest Gardens across Africa. Behind every thriving garden is a dedicated team taking a stand. Each field team member is from the country they serve, bringing deep roots in the community and an even deeper investment in seeing their communities thrive. Many have advanced agricultural or sustainability degrees and know local contexts to ensure program success. They know the land. They know the people. And they know what works. They’re the secret sauce behind every Forest Garden, ensuring local voices lead, and local solutions grow strong. This is what climate action looks like on the ground. For people. For the planet. For our future. #SFWYSO #OurPowerOurPlanet #EarthDay

Women are transforming farming, land, and lives. In Koungheul, Senegal, 50 women joined together with a shared goal: to feed their families, reclaim degraded land, and build a better future. With training and support from Trees for the Future, they’ve turned a once-barren plot into a thriving Forest Garden, filled with papaya, moringa, cabbage, okra, lemon, and more. In a region where fresh food is rare and resources are limited, these women are growing more than just crops. They’re growing independence, resilience, and opportunity. “I take care of this project as if it were my child, because my survival and that of my community depend on gardens,” says Khodia, one of the women leading the charge. From nutritious food and medicinal trees to new revenue streams and solar-powered reservoirs, they are redefining what’s possible when women are equipped with the tools to lead. 🌍 Stand for equity. Support women. Support farmers. Donate this Earth Day and help us reach more women like Khodia. #SFWYSO #OurPowerOurPlanet #ClimateAction

Agroforestry 101: Why Trees Belong on Farms Modern farming often removes trees—and at a devastating cost. Every day, forests are cleared for agriculture, stripping the land of its natural resilience. But agroforestry flips this on its head. In our program, farmers don’t see trees as obstacles or just part of the landscape. They see them as essential partners—restoring land, growing food, and securing a better future. It's a powerful relationship that benefits people, the planet, and generations to come. With your support, TREES works with farmers in some of the world’s most climate-affected regions, planting thousands of trees per farm that provide benefits at the local and global level - truly impacting systemic cycles of poverty and climate change. 🌳 Trees support farmers by improving soil health, providing shade, preventing erosion, and boosting crop yields. They also offer food, fuel, and income through fruits, nuts, and sustainable timber. 👨🏿🌾 Farmers support trees by planting, protecting, and integrating them into their land—ensuring trees thrive in ways that sustain both nature and livelihoods. When we take care of nature, nature takes care of us.
